snapdragon and salvia.
  • You can also start cool weather vegetables in the colder zones and warmer vegetables in warmer climates.
  • Late in the month, those plants that can take a cold night or two can be planted outside.  Pansies are a good example of this.
  • Prune summer blooming shrubs now.  I prune back the rose of Sharon 1/3.   The more you prune it the bigger the blooms this summer.
  • Prune fruit trees and shrubs now as well.
  • Clean-up ornamental grasses.  Clip them to the ground before the new growth begins.
  • Start removing hay, mulch and burlap.  Untie shrubs at months end.  Remember a heavy wet snow late in March does a lot of damage.
  • Reapply Deer proofing.
  • Put up a bird house.
  • Let snow blower run dry of the gas so that the gas does not sit all summer
